A Trinity of Being (2004) -

This
trilogy takes the form of experimental documentary
recounting the story of a survivor of one of the lesser-
known wars in South Africa, namely the “taxi wars” where
there is an ongoing battle for ownership of transport
routes. Years after the shooting, Shelley tells the
story through visual poetry.

voice from the perspective of a wheelchair user who
turns the camera on herself to celebrate love and
survival”

PRICKS revisits the moments when the fabric of a woman’s
life is torn and the revelations that take her beyond
loss.
Voice/Over
VOICE/OVER is an experimental video focusing on notions
of voice, language and disability. It explores
silence/spoken word/speech/the ability to speak and the
importance of speaking out about violence, trauma, love
and survival.
Entry
ENTRY
explores the re-insertion of images into a media that
does not reflect people with disabilities as passionate
and sensual beings. Moving away from narrative
structure, the film works on the level of visual
metaphor, where every frame is symbolic and poetic in
its composition.

we planted Trees (2007) -

In
1950, the apartheid government of South Africa passed
the Group Areas Act. Three and a half million people
were forced out of their homes. In post apartheid South
Africa, the African National Congress (ANC) government
began a process of land restitution, compensating
families with a token of what they had lost.
Where
we planted Trees tells the story of the Barry family who
lost their home in apartheid South Africa and regained
land in post apartheid South Africa.
The film is a tribute to ancestors, home, history,
personal document, home movie and documentary and is the
first African film predominantly shot by a
wheelchair-user.

Current Productions
Globeriders - Cape 2 Cape
This is a reality series
on a group of South Africans and their children who are
traversing the globe on 4x4 vehicles for a three year
period.
twospinningwheels
productions has
filmed their first episode, namely their pre-departure
period, due for release later this year. The company was
also responsible for training group members in video and
there are now three cameras on board the vehicles. Every
few months, Shelley will be visiting the Globeriders to
do interviews, collect tapes to edit and provide
feedback on their filming.

cellphone is a series of short films revolving around
the use of a cellphone which serves as the central theme
of the film. Short films ranging from 1- 6 mins, will
contain stories of heartbreak, love affairs, murder,
betrayal, fun, intrigue and mystery.
All
films will be set in the city of Port Elizabeth and upon
completion will be able to be downloaded as shorts to
cellphones and on various websites such as YOUtube and
myspace.com
The
films will also show collectively as a series of shorts.
Canvas
Two
painters across the Atlantic are united by common
ancestry. The film examines the influences on their art
and culminates in an exhibition of their work in New
York and Port Elizabeth.
New
York/New Brighton -

New
York/New Brighton tells the tale of two young girls who
each have a vision that they go in search of,
accompanied by their best friends. The girls, Anjelica
and Nomathamsanqua live in the Bronx, New York and in
New Brighton, South Africa. Although they never meet,
they have similar life experiences at the same time,
across the vast Atlantic ocean.
The
film is a tribute to youth, dreams and quests. It is
also being made to honour the Orisha, Yemaya and
spiritual father, Nelson Mandela.
